Morning Andrew and Dan,

I just want to drop you guys an email to express my gratitude for all the work and effort put in by Robert and Claude on my new Server.

After my Server Crashed all seemed to just keep going wrong day after day and After Placing and order with Claude for our new server it arrived from the suppliers and was giving Robert major issues during installation. He worked the entire weekend for Amphenol trying to get the Server functioning correctly updating me along the way.

Claude sent the server back to the supplier and replaced some parts. When the server arrived back I requested we start setting up the server during the week as my current server was dying by the minute. Robert left his other job he had planned to do and rushed through to our offices. We started setting up the new server and domain and left Amphenol offices at 12:30pm that night. The Server was up and running and all scripting was created and Server shares done. All we had to do was join workstations to the domain. (Thanks Robert for the Extra effort)

Robert was kind enough to follow up after installation and assisted me with other remote desktop issues I was having on my Terminal Server for our Macola Users.

I am really grateful for all the extra effort put in by ASG Staff and kudos to Robert and Claude for their assistance.

Kind Regards,

Raymond Wood

Good afternoon,

We spoke briefly about two weeks ago about the service that I have received from your staff.

This is just to say thank you for the help that we received during our little crises this month. Personally I have dealt with Robert, Shaun and Frans, but from feedback that I received from my staff it is clear that everybody at ASG is always very helpful when I have asked them to pop in at your shop to pick up some stock.

I am sure we will be doing business again.

Regards,

Morne Nel  (Director)

Good day

I wish to compliment you on the service level given to me by your staff.

I called for a quote on 11 October 2011, to move two routers from outside buildings into our offices, Chesney & Nelson came out to our premises had a look at what we were needing, explained the process to me and before the end of the day I had my quote which was accepted.

Nelson came out yesterday (19 October 2011) with his crew to move the routers, Nelson had said on his initial visit that it could take a fair length of time due to the tracing of the lines and may be off line for the day.  He and his crew got to work on the job and very efficiently completed the job in a matter a couple of hours.

You can be assured that your staff are a compliment / asset to your company with the professional way in which they deal / treat your clients.

Kind Regards

Dear Dan

Just a big thank-you from all at UVS to Archie, once again we received outstanding service, he was quick, helpful, very professional and always friendly.  Not once did he hesitate to assist no matter how stupid our requests are.  Big hug and appreciation from us.

We said this before and say it again, every company needs an Archie!!

In these difficult economic times many companies understandably want to extend Business IT Support and hardware maintenance on their Microsoft Servers and PCs for as long as they can.

But at some point the hardware will run out of warranty and it will become so old that your IT Support Company will be unable to provide adequate IT Support.

How Long Can You Extend IT Support On Old Computers?

Generally your Servers and PCs will last between 3 and 5 years.

There are 3 main reasons for this:

  1. After 5 years it’s almost impossible to get a warranty.  That means if it breaks it’s difficult to fix.  Even if you could get a warranty it would be expensive compared to the cost of a new computer.
  2. The version of software on the computer will be quite old.  This may make it difficult to exchange information with people who have a more current version of the software despite the best efforts of your Business IT Support Company
  3. Old computers are slow.  Your users are likely to be frustrated.  As far as they are concerned their PC or the network server will be getting in the way of them doing their work.

Limits On Managed IT Support Services

If you have a fixed price Managed IT Support Service there is likely to be a clause in the IT Support Contract that limits IT Support on old computers. After 5 years it’s more costly to keep an old computer than replace it and it is therefore too expensive for your IT Support Company to maintain your old computers.

Replacing your Server

Your servers are at the heart of your business, so it’s important that you have an IT Support Contract for them.  However Business IT Support isn’t the whole picture – hardware maintenance is important too.

The performance and reliability of your servers will affect all of your staff, not just 1 or 2.  After 5 years it’s almost impossible to get a warranty, so if it breaks your IT Support Company probably won’t be able to get it fixed for you and this will have a huge impact on day to day operations.

Most businesses are so dependent on their servers that they cannot afford for that to happen.  So, at the very latest it will need to be replaced when you can no longer get a warranty, or an IT Support Contract.

However you may need to replace it before then if it will not run the most recent version of an application that you must upgrade to.

Or if the growth of your business means that it is no longer powerful enough for your requirements.  Your IT Support Company should advise you of this.

Hardware Maintenance From Your IT Support Company

Believe it or not the hardware manufacturers are the best and the cheapest people for hardware maintenance.   IT Support Companies are not particularly well geared up for hardware maintenance.

We would advise you to buy Dell servers and PCs.

In our experience it is good quality kit and Dell will come to your site within 4 hours and repair the hardware. As they manufactured the hardware, unlike the IT Support Company, they have the parts to fix it quickly.

The alterative from manufacturers like – Toshiba, Sony, Apple etc. – make you send the broken hardware to them. They then take two weeks to repair and return the kit, usually with the hard drive wiped. You IT Support Company will then need to completely rebuild it.

Your IT Support Company should liaise with the hardware manufacturer when you do have a problem – after all that’s why you’re paying for an IT Support Contract!
